Riley Gaines has been campaigning against transgender athletes in women's sports for the past few years and decided to take things a step further this week.

Gaines told the world she plans to pay prize money to Kim O'Brien, who dropped out of a billiards to avoid competing against a transgender athlete. The former NCAA swimmer referred to Harriet Haynes, the transgender athlete in question, by incorrect pronouns when discussing her reason for paying O'Brien. "Last year, in this same European tournament, it was the exact same people in the finals, and he beat her 7-1," Gaines said, via OutKick. "I'd been following along since I heard about him last year. And actually at this tournament there were two males that were playing, meaning there were two men playing in the women's elite pro section where only 32 athletes are offered spots. It's the biggest achievement for any pool player to make it to this meet. Both males made it to the top 8. Another player, Lynn Pinches, gave up her spot because men were playing."

Tennessee will soon add harsh penalties against public schools that allow transgender athletes to participate in girls’ sports, under legislation recently signed into law by Republican Gov. Bill Lee.

Lee quietly signed the proposal last Friday without comment. The governor had previously signed a measure last year mandating that student athletes must prove their sex matches that listed on the student’s “original” birth certificate. If a birth certificate was unavailable, then the parents must provide another form of evidence “indicating the student’s sex at the time of birth.”
